Warragul Theatre Organ Society
(WTOS)
After many months of work by the dedicated team from Melbourne, club member volunteers and specialist, the 3/10 Wurlitzer is now nearing completion in its new home in the organ loft at the Wesley of Warragul.

A Brief History of the Organ

Wurlitzer Opus 792 was built as style D, 2 manual 6 rank Special leaving the factory on
28 February 1924 initially stored in San Francisco

  • 27 March 1924 shipped to Los Angeles, CA Wurlitzer Store

  • 26 July 1926    installed in the Olympic Theatre - Seattle, WA

  • 1939 moved to KHQ Radio, Spokane, Eastern Washington city WA by Balcom & Vaughan who enlarged the console
        to 3 manuals and added 2 additional ranks of pipes prior to its installation
  • 1939 Ernest Manly removed the organ from the KHQ and began the installation in his Kirkland, Washington home

  • 1989 sold to Ian McLean in Australia

  • 1990 the organ was crated along with a replacement 3 manual console, which was purchased from Larry Weid of Sacramento.
       Everything was trucked to Seattle for the container shipment to Australia 

  • Delivered to its new owner in Aranda, Canberra, ACT (with additional organ components) it was stored but later moved to Queanbeyan, NSW

  • 1993 the organ was sold to Ray and Carolyn Thornley, Wonthaggi, Gippsland, Victoria

  • 2003 Finally with the prospects of a permanent home in the restored heritage Wesley Centre
         the organ was boght by Julien Arnold, John McLennan and Stan Wilson (who donated his part
       share to the Warragul Theatre Organ Society (WTOS)
       Many volunteers and members of the Society have helped in the rebuilding and installation
       of the organ
       
  • This  3/10 Wurlitzer pipe organ, in its purpose built chamber at the Wesley Centre, Warragul, Gippsland, is now undergoing its final tuning and voicing so as to be fully restored to concert performance ready for
        the Grand Opening on 22 March 2008
